  • Obrador’s undergraduate studies included a political science major. Later, Obrador interrupted his studies to engage in politics.  He participated in Tabasco’s Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in 1987.
  • As the director of the Indigenous Institute of Tabasco in 1977, Obrador held his first official appointment. He advocated for the publication of works in the local tongue.
  • He also initiated the project for Chontal Ridge. In 1989, Obrador became a member of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD).
  • In 1994, he ran as the party’s nominee for governor of Tabasco.
