John Prine, an American folk legend, has died as a result of coronavirus complications. He was 73 years old. Prine, whose coronavirus diagnosis was revealed on March 17, died on Tuesday, according to Variety. Fiona Prine, Prine’s wife and manager, announced on Twitter on April 3 that Prine had been admitted to a hospital’s intensive care unit. His wife also urged people to take the disease’s threat “seriously.”

Fiona stated on Prine’s official Instagram page that the entire family is devastated by Prine’s death. It says:

“John contracted COVID-19, and despite the incredible skill and care of his medical team at Vanderbilt, he was unable to overcome the damage this virus inflicted on his body. I sat with John, who was heavily sedated, in the hours before he died and will be eternally grateful for that opportunity.”

The news of his death sent shockwaves through the music industry, with stars such as Bruce Springsteen, Kacey Musgraves, Bonnie Raitt, Bette Midler, and others paying their respects to the legend. Springsteen stated on Twitter:

“The death of John Prine has devastated us here on E Street. In the early 1970s, John and I were “New Dylans,” and he was always the nicest guy in the world. A true national treasure and songwriter for the ages. We send our condolences and prayers to his family.”

While Musgraves tweeted, “Heartbroken.” Midler also shared a news link about Prine, stating, “He’s gone.” Furthermore, Raitt, who recorded Angel from Montgomery in the 1970s, expressed sadness upon learning of Prine’s death. He stated:
