On January 1, 1967, Pride performed at the Grand Ole Opry. On May 1, 1993, he became the Grand Ole Opry’s first African American performer. In addition, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000. In 2008, he received a lifetime achievement grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission.

He wrote several hit songs, including “Mississippi Cotton Picking Delta Town” and “Move on Mississippi.” In 2011, he was honored with a plaque on the Mississippi Country Music Trail. In July 2009, Pride performed at the White House for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
